I’ve always been big on teaching and training people. It’s some thing I was born to do. I believe focused training interventions are the fastest way to up-skill teams and fast track their performance. Of course, subsequent coaching and hyper-concentrated follow-up sessions are greatly effective to make the learning permanent but not every stakeholder is up to it.
The past couple of years I have delivered a lot less whole-day workshops than usual. Instead I have been experimenting with mastermind workshops that spreads out the usual 8 hours’ worth of learning and content sharing over a period of 8 to 10 weeks. With each session lasting 60 to 90 minutes, I’ve noticed a remarkable change in the energy levels, retention, participation and most importantly implementation. The format gives ample time for participants to try out the material before showing up at ‘class’ and clarifying doubts, if any. It’s sort of like a flipped classroom but for adults.
After reflecting on my client’s preferences and my own limitations (since this isn’t the only thing I do for a living… and that’s by choice) I’ve decided to focus on three specific training delivery formats for the next 5 years.
- Keynotes (60 to 90 minutes)
- Half-day workshops (4 hours)
- Mastermind workshops (8-10 weeks, 90 minute session each week)
That’s it! I don’t wish to overcomplicate my life and I believe these are the best format suited for not just my target audience but also me as a teacher, trainer and speaker. I’ve realised I can’t be a big ball of energy for 8-10 hours straight and a lousy version of me would a great disservice to the audience.
That said, I would continue to focus my energies on leadership development, personal growth and youth development through my speaking, training and coaching services.
If you or someone you know need help with any of the above, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’ll be happy to serve!
