The most complete guide on photography for beginners

I don’t think I’ve mentioned this here or even elsewhere ā€” I am quite a fan of black & white photography, particularly the street-kind that captures life in its most vulnerable or ecstatic state. And by that I mean I take quite a lot of snaps (when I can) that I obviously don’t share much. Even on my Instagram channel!

That might change someday but for now, I’ll continue snapping and save it in my personal gallery. A thought did occur once to create a curated collection in my Google Photos account that gets mapped to this blog but I let it pass. It’s a little complicated and I don’t have the inclination to get my hands dirty. At least for now. I’ll revisit this later during the year, perhaps.

Now, I’m not one of those who watches or reads photography stuff all the time but I’ve been on a hunt for a DSLR camera (or a bridge camera that will better mine existing Canon SX50 HS) for the past couple of weeks. I bumped into this ‘photography guide‘ this morning which I personally think is one of the best kind you’re going to get on the internet! It’s darn good!

This curated masterpiece goes in-depth on each and every aspect of photography that a beginner should be aware of before investing in gear. Topics include exposure, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, metering modes, depth of field, and much more!

It’s one of those pieces that not only deserves to be bookmarked but also revisited again and again. Perhaps, daily. I certainly did to brush up on the basics and it’s so much fun to actually ‘know’ your stuff than just randomly pointing and shooting pics before ruining it with some darn filter!

And while we’re at it, I would highly recommend that you check out some of Joshua’s programs on photography (for both beginners and experienced) that are sure to punch up your skills a notch above the rest. I’m not an affiliate but I think you knew that already. Didn’t you?

Another place to learn more about photography is LinkedIn Learning. If you have a premium subscription (or just the LinkedIn Learning subscription) these videos (in addition to a host of others ranging from business, creative and entrepreneurship topics) will make you a lot wiser and knowledgable. Please do take advantage of this service!

Have a snappy Sunday!
